Moralność nacjonalizmu w świetle doświadczeń narodów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej

Tadeusz Buksiński

Abstract

The paper characterises the types of nations and role of nationalism in Central-Eastern Europe. The nations in this region are more ethnic than civic and the relations between the state nations and minorities are more complicated than in the West because of hi- storical heritage. The main thesis of the paper proclaims that the extreme nationalism is a vice (fault) and the moderate nationalism (patriotism) is a virtue. The moderate nationalism allows for supporting one’s own nation in a privileged way but only while abiding by human and civil rights of all ethnic and religious minorities in the state. The autonomy, however, should be granted only to the peaceful and tolerant minorities.
