Kulturowe obrazy świata: jak możliwy jest postęp moralny?

Barbara Kotowa

Abstract

The issue articulated in the title of this article is examined in the context of epistemic progress in science and the question of artistically-aesthetic progress in the arts. In the case of science its development is functionally determined by the rule of essentially corrective correspondence, and its progress is measurable empirically; in the case of arts the development is determined by the need of evaluative-worldview efficiency, and regulated by the principle of adaptation, therefore the progress is not possible. Morality as a set of normative beliefs is similar to arts in its functioning: its evaluative- -worldview efficiency can be grasped (evaluated) only in terms of historical pertinence of particular moral values.
