The Issue of the Axiological Basis of Liberalism

Abstract

The article analyses the axiological justification for liberalism. The author demonstrates that the widespread justifications for liberalism are either theoretically inconsistent or based on dubious premises. In the conclusion of the paper, the author suggests his own axiological justification for liberalism, stressing simultaneously that the axiological minimalism, characteristic of liberalism, is a threat to the historical reproduction of higher culture.
