The Individual in the Process of Cultural Change
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the role of individual in the cultural transformation contained in two conceptions: the socio-regulational conception of culture proposed by Jerzy Kmita and Young Yun Kim’s conception of intercultural transformations. In the first part I present Kim’s perspective of individual changes as a result of intercultural interactions. Next, I describe the concept of cultural change from the anti-individualistic view of Kmita’s theory. This will enable the attempt to reconstruct – in the framework of Kmita’s conception – the relation between individual and cultural action and the role of individual during cultural transformations.
Keywords: cultural transformation, individual action, cultural action.
