The cultural dimension of postconstructivism in the perspective of Anna Pałubicka’s Grammar of European culture
Abstract
The article presents some remarks on postconstructivism from the point of view of social constructivism. The basis for the discussion is the newest book by Anna Pałubicka entitled Grammar of European culture, which shows the dualistic dimension of our culture. The book describes two general attitudes toward the world present in the European culture: the attitude of a man involved in the realization of chosen values, and the attitude of a distanced observer of the world and man himself. I believe that postconstructivists like Łukasz Afeltowicz and Radosław Sojak represent involved side of this opposition and do not care about the theoretical dimension of humanistic reflection. I do not condone that. In my opinion, the “death of a theory,” a lynch on distanced humanistic reflection is a threat to our culture, which can be inferred from what these authors say about the non-usefulness of today’s humanistic discourse.
Keywords: Anna Pałubicka, Łukasz Afeltowicz, Radosław Sojak. constructivism, postconstructivism, culture.
