Abstract

Early Epistemology of Moritz Schlick


This paper aims to explore early epistemology of Moritz Schlick. In order to avoid difficulties of the'classical' empiricism Schlick presented a new perspective to understand the foundations of human knowledge. He believed that knowledge should be perceived rather as an univocal designation of objects with concepts than a mental representation of the objects that are displayed as reflections in human mind. According to him, that was the only perspective that would ever allow anyone to establish a firm foundation for any epistemological venture. However, the sharp distinction being drawn between the realm of rigorous concepts and that of reality can made all sorts of various problems and dilemmas arise.
