Abstract

Three Theologies of Plato

Abstract

The article is an attempt at interpreting the problem of theology in Plato on the basis of Varro’s concept of a threefold theology: mythical (fabulosa), political (civilis) and philosophical (naturalis). The authors focus primarily on certain excerpts from Plato’s Politeia which contain a very early approach to the threefold view, which in turn is pivotal in the Greek philosophical-and-religious mentality.

Keywords: Plato, Greek theology, philosophy, myth, politics.
