Abstract

Divine Omnipotence and Theology of Chance

The article presents such a conception of God in which chance is compossible with the existence of God. A chance event is regarded as an event which has no cause, an event which is unpredictable and an event which is purposeless. The evidence supporting the existence of chance events is delivered by the contemporary science. The propose conception of divine omnipotence should be consistent with the contemporary science. However, divine omnipotence is understood in a Cartesian sense, i.e. as a limitless power. Our considerations regarding divine omnipotence are based on the contemporary theology of chance.

Keywords: God, chance, omnipotence, evil, freedom.
